Completing the eMPN for Federal Direct Loans
The website to complete the eMPN for the Direct Stafford and the Direct PLUS Loan is www.studentloans.gov .
You will be asked to login using your Social Security Number, the first two letters of your last name, your date of birth, and your FAFSA pin number.
After you login, select “Complete Master Promissory Note” which will take you to a screen where you will see: "Select the type of loan you would like to receive"; at this point choose the loan type which you want to apply for (either Subsidized/Unsubsidized (Federal Direct Loans available to undergraduate or graduate/professional students) or Parent PLUS (Federal Direct Loans available to parents of dependent undergraduate students). At this point you will then fill out and e-sign the actual Direct Stafford (student) or Parent PLUS Loan (parent) eMPN.
Completing online loan counseling for Federal Direct Stafford Loans
All Direct Stafford loan borrowers new to Malone for 2012-13 (including transfers) must complete the Direct Stafford Loan online loan counseling session at www.studentloans.gov. Complete the log in then choose “Complete Entrance Counseling” on the left side of the main screen. This must be completed before Direct Stafford loan can be disbursed to the student's account.
