As an integral part of a liberal arts education, the study of Language and Literature prepares students to think analytically and to communicate articulately. These fields also discipline the intellect and teach individuals to comprehend the world. Surrounded by a Christian atmosphere, a major in English, Integrated Language Arts, Spanish or Spanish Education equips students to lead purposeful and productive lives as educated members of the communities in which they live, worship and work. The Department of Language and Literature seeks to define what it is to be human
At Malone College, the primary goals of the Department of Language and Literature are to enable students to read with insight and understanding, and to write with an awareness of audience, purpose, and context. The faculty accomplishes these objectives by introducing students to the foundations of literature, language and writing, including traditional as well as non-traditional forms. English, Integrated Language Arts, Spanish and Spanish Education majors at Malone College benefit from a talented, friendly faculty who conduct classes in a dialogic and communicative manner of exchange with the students. On a professional level, students with a degree in English, Integrated Language Arts, Spanish or Spanish Education are prepared for the teaching and writing of literature, editing, pursuing graduate degrees or working in other fields involving the communication of abstract ideas. Graduates of the Department of Language and Literature have gone on to professions in teaching, publishing and law, while others hold responsible positions in business, industry and government.
