Jazz Ensemble Concert

The Malone University College of Theology, Arts, and Sciences – Department of Music will present a Jazz Ensemble concert Thursday, December 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Memorial Chapel of the Johnson Center for Worship and the Fine Arts, located at 2600 Cleveland Avenue N.W. in Canton. The program – under the direction of Ian Indorf – is free and open to the public. A program follows.

 Ian Indorf holds a masters of music in trumpet performance from Kent State University, and bachelor of music degrees in both trumpet performance and jazz studies from the University of Akron. All college degrees were summa cum laude. Ian is a very active freelance musician in Northeast Ohio and the surrounding region of the United States. He frequently performs in New York City, Detroit, Chicago, St. Louis and tours throughout the area. His versatility ranges from principle trumpet in orchestral to lead trumpet in big band positions. Ian is an endorsed performing artist for the Conn-Selmer Corporation. In 1998 he toured with the legendary Tommy Dorsey Orchestra holding the split lead/jazz soloist chair. Ian performed at both the 2001 and 2005 U.S. presidential inaugural balls in Washington DC. In 2007, Ian performed in a tour of France on trumpet with his brother Mark Indorf on pipe organ. National names include: Terry Gibbs, Louis Belson, Rosemary Clooney, Frankie Vallie, Frankie Avalon, Arturo Sandoval, Bob Brookmeyer, Marcus Belgrave, The O’Jays, Sonny Geraci, Bobby Rydell and Bill Dobbins just to name a few. He can also be seen with the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra, the Jack Schantz Jazz Unit, and locally, the John Trapani Big Band. Ian has been both a clinician and a guest performer for numerous colleges in the area. He has also assisted over 20 local high schools with their music programs as an instructor, guest performer, and clinician. In addition to directing the Jazz Band at Malone University, Ian is a recording engineer for the University of Akron, and owns Indorf Instrument Repair, a successful instrument repair business.
