6274-February 10, 2012
The Malone University online student newspaper, The Aviso AVW , has been awarded First Place for Best Collegiate Newspaper Website in its division from the Ohio Newspaper Association. The division included publications with less-than-daily frequency. The Aviso AVW placed ahead of competition from Otterbein (second place) and Ashland (third place).
According to the judges' reports: "Content is good. Site seems to be covering the important news areas. Great use of RSS from The Canton Repository to round out the site's news coverage. I was immediately impressed with the look of the site upon landing on the front page. . . . Overall an excellent entry to the website competition. Competes well with the larger schools."
The award presentation occurred at the Ohio Newspaper Association's Annual Convention February 9 in Columbus. This is the first year The Aviso AVW has entered this competition.
