6281-Worldview Forum - Can a Christian be a Democrat? Can a Christian be a Republican?

The Malone University Worldview Forum Series will close out the academic year with its final offering – and one well suited for an election year – Can a Christian be a Democrat? Can a Christian be a Republican? The forum is Tuesday, March 20, at 7 p.m. in the Worship Center of the Johnson Center for Worship and the Fine Arts. The program is free and open to the public.

Jennifer Brunner Jennifer Brunner served as Secretary of State of Ohio (the first woman in history to do so) from 2007 - 2011 and as a state trial court Judge of the Common Pleas Court of Franklin County from 2000 - 2005. She is the founding partner of the Brunner Quinn law firm, having launched it as a sole practitioner in 1988, as the state's first law practice focused on election law. She also founded the Courage PAC.

As a judge, Brunner has presided over civil and criminal felony trials, including death penalty cases. As an attorney, Brunner holds litigation and administrative law experience in state and local public contract issues, corporate and contract matters, ethics and election law, liquor and local option law and zoning law. Her experience includes representation before agencies, boards and commissions and trial and appellate representation in numerous counties in Ohio and in the Northern and Southern U.S. District Courts of Ohio and the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Brunner holds degrees from Miami University and Capital University Law School. She is a member of the American, Ohio State, and Columbus Bar Associations.

David Murray David P. Murray is a partner in the Litigation Department of Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP in Washington, D.C., where he specializes in complex civil litigation involving communications, media, RICO, Fair Labor Standards Act, Commerce Clause, product safety, securities, and class actions.

Murray has represented Comcast Corporation, NBCUniversal Media, LLC, Sprint-Nextel Corporation, tw telecom inc., and other entities in district court and appellate actions and arbitrations around the country. In addition, he has represented Yamaha Motor Corporation, U.S.A. in appellate, nationwide consumer class actions, and regulatory and product safety matters before the Department of Justice, the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the Department of Transportation, the United States Coast Guard, and other agencies. Murray also worked on the Feist Publications team at Willkie, which successfully overturned 80 years of adverse precedent in a landmark copyright decision by the United States Supreme Court.

He is a member of the American, Ohio, and District of Columbia Bar Associations and has served on the Board of Trustees for Malone University. Murray holds degrees from Malone University and Georgetown University Law Center.

Jane Hoyt-Oliver Jane Hoyt-Oliver, Ph.D.,  is professor of Social Work and director of General Education at Malone University. She holds degrees from Pine Manor College, Syracuse University, and Case Western Reserve University.
