The Malone University College of Theology, Arts, and Sciences – Department of Music will present a student recital Sunday, March 18, at 3 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, located at 425 Cleveland Avenue S.W. in Canton. The program – featuring Laurel Weir, a mezzo soprano from Canton – is free and open to the public. A program follows.

Laurel Weir, mezzo soprano, is a senior pursuing two bachelor of art degrees in both communication arts with a public relations concentration and music performance. Her primary instrument is voice, which she has studied with Cynthia Wohlschlager and Rachel Núñez. She is a member of the Chamber Choir and serves as president of the University Chorale. Laurel is a native of Canton, Ohio and continues to work in the choral department of her alma mater, GlenOak High School where she was a guest soloist performing Antonio Vivaldi's Gloria with the GlenOak High School Chorale. Performances with the Malone University Chorale have taken her to Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, and across the United States. This summer Laurel is planning to attend Sessione Senese per la Musica e l'Arte (SSMA), a month-long study abroad music performance program in Siena, Italy. SSMA offers coaching in performance practice by a well known artist-faculty from leading American and Italian Universities and provides opportunities to perform vocal and instrumental music in formal and informal concert settings in various towns in Tuscany.
