6320-Malone University Alumnus – The Reverend Rick Sams of Alliance Friends Church – will Address 120th Baccalaureate Ceremony

Rick SamsThe Reverend Fredrick Sams of Alliance Friends Church will serve as Baccalaureate speaker for Malone University's 120th graduation weekend ceremonies. The Baccalaureate service will take place Friday, April 27 at 7 p.m. in the Johnson Center for Worship and the Fine Arts, located on the campus at 2600 Cleveland Avenue N.W. in Canton. Rick graduated from Malone University in 1975 with a B. A. in history.  He went on to earn his M. A.in religion, his D. Min, and is currently serving as the senior pastor of Alliance Friends Church with attendance of more than 500 people.  As a student at Malone, Rick was involved in Student Senate, served as a men's resident advisor and was inducted into Who's Who.

He has served on the Evangelical Friends Church – Eastern Region (EFC-ER) Friends Conference executive committee from 1995 – 2001.  Rev. Sams is district superintendent – Northeast Ohio District and a member of the executive board and secretary of the executive committee – EFC-ER.  Rick is the organizer of a task force on racial reconciliation and inner city church planting in Alliance.  His inspirational email newsletter, called Rick's Ramblings, has hundreds of subscribers around the world. Rick and his wife, Joyce (McElroy), also a 1975 Malone graduate, have been actively involved in the Right to Life cause. Alliance Friends carried on an outreach campaign to distribute the JESUS video throughout much of the Alliance community.  Under his leadership, Alliance Friends Church received a Golden Spade Award from the Alliance Chamber of Commerce for growth and expansion.

Malone University, a Christian university for the arts, sciences, and professions in the liberal arts tradition, affiliated with the Evangelical Friends Church, awards both undergraduate and graduate degrees in more than 100 academic programs.
