6346-Malone University School of Business and Leadership Awarded National Accreditation for Adult Degree Completion Program

6346-May 18, 2012

The Malone University School of Business and Leadership announced today its adult degree completion program – the Malone Management Program (MMP) – has been approved for accreditation from    the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), a "leading specialized accreditation association for business education supporting, celebrating, and rewarding teaching excellence."

The association embraces the virtues of teaching excellence and emphasizes to students that it is essential to learn how to learn. ACBSP acknowledges the importance of scholarly research and inquiry and believes that such activities facilitate improved teaching. Institutions are strongly encouraged to pursue a reasonable mutually beneficial balance between teaching and research. Further, ACBSP encourages faculty involvement within the contemporary business world to enhance the quality of classroom instruction and to contribute to student learning.

ACBSP promotes continuous improvement and recognizes excellence in the accreditation of business education programs around the world.

According to Marjorie Carlson-Hurst, D.B.A., dean of the School of Business and Leadership at Malone, "The graduates from the Malone Management Program are the real stamp of approval to the quality of the program. Our graduates can be found in all fields and doing good things for their organizations." She continues, "The ACBSP accreditation is special and not all schools in our area have achieved it, but the true testimony of a quality education is in the end product – our many graduates."

The announcement comes soon after the recent national ranking of the MMP online program – recognized by USNews & World Report as #50 for "teaching practices and student engagement" of 172 colleges and universities ranked nationally. Malone also ranked in the top third (66th of 179 institutions) for "student services and technology" with regards to its online learning.

Available through a traditional "ground" classroom setting or online, Malone's bachelor of arts degree in organizational, project, marketing, health services, or environmental management is designed for nontraditional students with a minimum of five years of work experience who have some post-high school education. The degree may be completed in 14 months. Since its inception in 1984, more than 3400 adult students have completed their degrees; the program also boasts an impressive 80 percent graduation rate.

Malone University, a Christian university for the arts, sciences, and professions in the liberal arts tradition, affiliated with the Evangelical Friends Church, awards both undergraduate and graduate degrees in more than 100 academic programs. Malone is recognized by the prestigious Templeton Foundation as a leader in character development, named an NAIA Champions of Character Five Star Award winner, and is ranked among the top colleges and universities in the Midwest under the category Regional Universities according to U.S.News & World Report's America's Best Colleges 2012.
