almeda trioThe Malone University College of Theology, Arts, and Sciences – Department of Music will open its Faculty Artist Series with the Almeda Trio Monday, September 17 at 7:30 p.m. in the Stewart Room of the Randall Campus Center. The program is free and open to the public.

From the Almeda Trio website:

Since its debut in 2008, the Almeda Trio has quickly gained positive critical attention and enthusiastic audience response in the greater Cleveland area and beyond. As trio-in-residence at The Music Settlement in University Circle, the ensemble has dedicated itself to the three missions of performance, education, and outreach. Its members―Cara Tweed, violin; Ida Mercer, cello; and Robert Cassidy, piano―are accomplished performers and faculty members at The Music School Settlement, as well as at the Aurora School of Music (Tweed), Case Western Reserve University (Mercer) and Cleveland State University (Cassidy and Tweed). During the past two seasons, the trio played multiple engagements at Cleveland State University and The Music Settlement. They performed live on Cleveland radio stations WCLV and WCPN, and gave concerts in various venues that included Ohio, Indiana, Connecticut, and New York. The ensemble takes its name from the early 20th-century social activist, who was both the first blind graduate of an American music conservatory, and the founder of the Music Settlement, Almeda Adams.

Malone University, a Christian university for the arts, sciences, and professions in the liberal arts tradition, affiliated with the Evangelical Friends Church, awards both undergraduate and graduate degrees in more than 100 academic programs.
