6412-Malone University student social justice group be:Justice presents Nhu of Remember Nhu
6412: September 26, 2012
On Monday, October 1 at 7 p.m. in the Brehme Conference Center, the student group be:justice is honored to host Carl and Laurie Ralston - and Nhu - of the organization Remember Nhu. The program is free and open to the public.
The program will include a brief video detailing Nhu's story.
Extended background story: Nhu became a Christian through the ministries of local missionaries, which greatly upset her grandmother, with whom she lived. During the missionary's furlough, her desperately poor grandmother sold Nhu's virginity when she was 12, then sold her repeatedly to the same man. Carl Ralston first became aware of children being sold into the slave trade in general (and Nhu specifically) at a CMA conference, and felt God calling him to do whatever he could to prevent the use of children in the sex trade. Six years after founding the organization, they was able to locate Nhu; she became the first official "employee" of Remember Nhu.
Remember Nhu is now in Cambodia, Thailand, and eight additional countries, where they operate children's homes and trade schools to give young girls – and boys -- a way out of extreme poverty and abusive situations, providing them with vocational skills. Learn more at www.remembernhu.org or view Nhu telling her story here.
In addition, be:justice, the Social Work Club, and the Fishing Club are hosting a fishing derby on Saturday, October 13, from 2:30-5:30 p.m. at Varian Orchards to raise money for Remember Nhu. Learn more or register to attend.
