6431-Malone University presents Jazz Ensemble

Canton, OH.  The Malone University College of Theology, Arts, and Sciences – Department of Music will present the Jazz Ensemble Tuesday, October 23 at 7:30 p.m. in the Stewart Room of the Randall Campus Center, located on the campus at 2600 Cleveland Avenue N.W. in Canton. The program – under the direction of Tom Pylinski – is free and open to the public. A program follows.

Thomas Edward Pylinskiearned a bachelor of music degree in trombone performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music and a master of music degree in trombone performance from the University of Akron. He has studied with Edward Zadrozny, Steven Witser, Richard Stout, Harold Reynolds and John Marcellus. Today, Tom maintains an active career as a freelance trombonist and private music teacher in Northeast Ohio. He is a member of the Akron Symphony, the Canton Symphony, the Youngstown Symphony, and the Starkweather Brass. In addition, he is a substitute player with the Erie Philharmonic and the Roanoke Symphony, and has performed with the Wheeling Symphony, Red {an orchestra}, the Chagrin Falls Studio Orchestra, Porthouse Theatre, the Paragon Brass Quintet, the Summit Choral Society, and the Master Singers Chorale. Tom has spent summers at Tanglewood, the Chautauqua Institution, in Colorado as a fellow of the National Repertory Orchestra, and in Ohio where he is currently principal trombonist of the Lancaster Festival Orchestra. He has performed with such notable acts as the Beach Boys, Kenny Rogers, Lee Ann Womack, and the Temptations. He has also performed in Canada and Europe as well as with Randy Newman and Marvin Hamlisch while at the University of Akron.

Tom is adjunct instructor of low brass and Jazz Ensemble director at Malone University and has also taught at Ashland University, the University of Akron, the Avon School of Music, and the Strongsville Academy of Music. He has taught in the Ohio public school system and at the Ohio Music Education Association convention in Columbus. In addition to his performance and teaching posts, Tom serves on the literature review staff of the International Trombone Association Journal, where he has recently had published several reviews of works for trombone ensemble.
