6464-Office of Spiritual Formation Alternative Gift Mart

6464-November 10, 2012

Alternative Gift market

Struggling with what to buy that hard-to-shop-for person on your holiday list?

The Malone University Office of Spiritual Formation will hold an Alternative Gift Mart Tuesday, December 4 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the Stewart Room of the Randall Campus Center, located on the campus at 2600 Cleveland Avenue N.W. in Canton.

The Alternative Gift Mart is a place to learn about creative solutions to problems around the world while inviting people to participate in those solutions through creative gift giving.

Gifts purchased at the Market (such as solar cookers, books, trees, peace training etc.) are purchased in honor of someone with the gift itself going to the one who needs it.

For example, you may buy a mosquito net in honor of your Uncle Ned. Uncle Ned will then receive a Christmas card explaining that his gift will be used to prevent malaria spreading to a child in India. Uncle Ned doesn't get stuck with another silk tie he doesn't need, the child in India is safe from mosquitoes, and you've crossed one more shopping item off your list.

The purpose of the Alternative Gift Market is not to compete with retail stores, but rather to offer a meaningful gift-giving option in the Christmas season.
