6530-Malone University Online Student Newspaper – The Aviso – Awarded Best Collegiate Newspaper Website by the Ohio Newspaper Association

For the second consecutive year, the Malone University online student newspaper, The Aviso AVW (audio, visual, web), has been awarded First Place for Best Collegiate Newspaper Website in its division from the Ohio Newspaper Association. The division included publications with less-than-daily frequency. The Aviso AVW topped a competitive field of eight colleges and universities in the category, including Otterbein (second place) and Sinclair Community College (third place).

According to the Judges' reports the site excels in its "Nice design. To the point. Complete."

The award presentation occurred at the Ohio Newspaper Association's Annual Convention Feb. 14 in Columbus. This is also the second year The Aviso has entered this competition.

About The Aviso AVW:

Integral to journalism training is experience on Malone's multimedia student news service, Aviso AVW . Students are given the opportunity to develop and sharpen writing, video, editing, and thinking skills as they navigate today's constantly changing media. Any student is welcome to participate on the staff - success depends on the work of people with a wide range of skills. Students from any major may participate. The site combines skills in writing, photographer, videography, sound, stand-up delivery, illustration, graphic arts, and publicists – all engaged in enhancing the readers' online experience.

Aviso AVW coverage includes news, features, sports, and opinion. Along the way, staff members gain valuable professional experience to prepare them for internships and careers - students can receive academic credit as well.
