6544-Malone University announces spring art exhibits

Malone University announces the following two spring art exhibits taking place on the campus located at 2600 Cleveland Avenue N.W. in Canton.

The Fountain Gallery is located within the Johnson Center for Worship and the Fine Arts. Art-in-a-Case is located within the Everett Cattell Library. Both exhibits are open during regular business hours, are free and open to the public.

Fountain Gallery

WaalkesThe Fountain Gallery will show Artist and Resident: works from local artists now through through April 4. The exhibit shows work from four artists local to Canton:

  • Diane Belfiglio
  • Russ Hench
  • Nancy Stewart Matin
  • Michele Waalkes (artwork pictured)

The diverse media displayed includes innovative techniques such as Waalkes's photographs transferred onto fabric and Hench's mixed media paintings. These works are balanced by more traditional media such as Belfiglio's oil pastel drawings of flowers and Stewart Matin's watercolors.

Art-in-a-Case

Sterling Art-in-a-Case will feature sculpture by Judith Sterling from March 13 - April 30. Sterling, who lives in Massillon, graduated from Kent State University with a bachelor of fine arts, magna cum laude with departmental honors in the College of Arts. She has studied with several renowned artists including Jena Filaccio at the Lorenzo DiMedici School of Art in Florence, Italy in 2006. Her work is primarily sculptural spanning several mediums including marble, ceramics, and sterling silver jewelry. Her work is inspired by nature and often takes organic forms.
