Malone University Open Frame Student Film Festival set for April 20 at the Canton Palace Theatre
April 4, 2013 | Release # 6597
The Malone University School of Theology, Arts, and Sciences – Department of Communication Arts will present the 12th annual Open Frame Student Film Festival Saturday, April 20 at the historical Canton Palace Theatre, located at 605 Market Avenue North.
This year the Open Frame will include two showings. At 4 p.m. our up-and-coming block of films will combine new student filmmakers with alumni who are continuing to make films in film school, in Hollywood, and elsewhere. Our 8 p.m. show will include two hours of films that qualified for our juried selection. Audiences will participate in awarding prizes by voting on their favorites. The tickets to the afternoon event are free and the tickets to the evening showing will be $1.
A red carpet event will take place between the showings at 6:30 p.m. in front of the theatre, sponsored by Carpetime.
About the Open Frame:
The Open Frame is a festival that screens one night of films to an audience of hundreds. The Open Frame also is a film development program that helps students move through the production process just the way they would if working professionally. Competitions juried by outside professionals each year give students opportunities to win awards and receive substantial feedback on their work across the course of their college career. Students submit their films to festivals around the country. Past Open Frame winners have gone on to win awards at subsequent film festivals.
Throughout the past 12 years, our students have made more than 100 films - working hard as producers, writers, directors, technicians, actors, and artists. We're not making "Christian films;" we're starting from a faith-based perspective and making films that tell all kinds of truth about human experience. Our students use high-end HD video cameras and editing equipment in a state-of-the-industry, newly-renovated student media center.
