Malone University junior Seth Yergin is a winner at Cleveland 48 Hour Film Project
September 3, 2013 | Release # 6694
Malone University junior Seth Yergin, a communication arts major from Akron, Ohio, was a recent winner at the Cleveland 48 Hour Film Project. His production company "Cyclical Productions" was awarded Best Original Score, Best Directing, and runner up for Best Film for the film, "Hi." The film was also nominated for Best Acting Male Lead, Best Acting Female Lead, Best Editing, and the Audience Award.
The 48 Hour Film Project is a "wild and sleepless weekend" in which filmmaking teams write, shoot, edit, and score films. All work must be completed within a 48 hour window. To get started, each team was assigned a character, prop, line of dialogue and a film genre. Films were then premiered on the big screen and judged.
According to Yergin, "It was a great time, but also very exhausting. It was overall a great experience that I not only learned a great deal from, but also enjoyed thoroughly."
He was surprised at the success of his film, which he describes as an idiosyncratic chronicling of the ups and downs of a relationship between two individuals.
"I honestly couldn't believe it. Not because I didn't think that my film was quality, but because it was my first year directing a team," he says. "So, as you could imagine, receiving so many nominations was hugely surprising. It has also bolstered my confidence in my abilities as a filmmaker."
Yergin hopes to attend the Los Angeles Film Studies Center through Malone University's participation in the Christian Counsel for Colleges and Universities Best Semester Program.
