The Fountain Gallery is currently featuring, "Courage: An Attempted Explanation/Understanding" by Akron artist Debra DeGregorio from now through October 1, 2013.

DeGregorio's unique installation combines cloth mâché 'mountains' with drawings using sumi ink, acrylic paint, pastels, and colored pencil on paper. Connecting the distinct elements are tiny foot prints, small ladders, and flags which create the sense of a landscape.

DeGregorio says of her work, "I am describing the mammoth and courageous task of living everyday in the vast interior and exterior arena of history, memory, emotions, interactions and futures."

Born in Pittsburgh, Penn., DeGregorio received a BFA in printmaking and drawing from Kent State University, studied ceramics and printmaking at the University of Akron, and earned an MFA in printmaking from SUNY. She teaches drawing, design, and painting at Youngstown State University and Kent State University. DeGregorio also works as a gardener with Square Gardens, a business she owns with her partner and fellow artist, Trey Berry. More information on DeGregorio and her work can be found at http://www.debradegregorio.com.

Art-in-a-Case is currently featuring small collage works by Akron artist, Caryn Steerman, now through December 6. Steerman, a mixed media artist, has exhibited in galleries throughout Northeast Ohio and in West Virginia. The small collages displayed in the Case are typical of her work using found images, with words and short phrases to create highly personal works layered with meaning. The narrative created by these works challenges the viewer to reconcile the juxtaposition of contrasting words and imagery and rewards close and careful viewing.

Steerman often donates work to benefit charitable causes. Her most recent exhibits include: Frigid Art Exhibit at Asterisk Gallery, Cleveland, Ohio; Project Water at Studio 2041, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; Photo Booth Project at Massillon Museum, Massillon, Ohio.

Malone University, a Christian university for the arts, sciences, and professions in the liberal arts tradition, affiliated with the Evangelical Friends Church, awards both undergraduate and graduate degrees in more than 100 academic programs.
