Malone University’s Open Frame to host a series of events leading up to spring film festival

Annie HowellThe Malone University "Open Frame" will host a series of instructional opportunities open to area filmmakers prior to its spring film festival, scheduled for April 5 at the Historic Canton Palace Theatre. This year's festival will include a screenwriter's workshop, cinematography workshop and host its annual scriptwriter and movie poster contests. New to the festival this year, Malone will be hosting a Master Film Maker film series.

There will be a master filmmaker screening of the film Small, Beautifully Moving Parts, written and directed by Annie Howell and co-created by Lisa Robinson, on Tuesday, September 24, at 7:30 p.m. in room 49 of the Everett Cattell Library, located on the campus at 2600 Cleveland Avenue N.W. in Canton. Then, screenwriter/director Annie Howell herself will conduct a screenwriter's workshop open to Malone University students and the public on Thursday, September 26 from 9:30 – 11 a.m. and again from 1 – 2:30 p.m. in the Fred F. Silk Auditorium of Mitchell Hall, located on the Canton campus.

Annie J. Howell is assistant professor of screenwriting / production at Ohio University. She has written and directed several short fiction and nonfiction films, and had then exhibited internationally on the film festival circuit. Her film Small, Beautifully Moving Parts, co-created with Lisa Robinson – played at last year's Cleveland Film Festival. Her web series, sparks-series.com, also created with Robinson, is in current syndication on the Sundancechannel.com, where Howell blogs on film and storytelling.

The annual Open Frame screenwriting contest opens October 3 and will run through November 21.

In addition, Malone will screen its Master Film Maker series of classic films, free and open to the public. All films will be shown in room 49 of the Everett L. Cattell Library at 7: 30 p.m.
