Malone University Aviso AVW (Audio, Video. Web.) named a Pacemaker finalist for second consecutive year

October 2, 2013 | Release # 6730

For the second consecutive year, the Malone University online student newspaper  The Aviso AVW (Audio. Video. Web.) has been named a finalist for the Associated Collegiate Press's Pacemaker award in the category of online-only publications. The Pacemakers are considered by many to be the highest honor awarded for student journalism.

According to David Dixon, Ph.D., professor of communication arts, and faculty adviser of The Aviso AVW, "Being online-only, The Aviso AVW is able to fully integrate media, using text, photography, video and online resources and social media, rather than just delivering old-style writing on a screen. It reflects the way audiences use media today."

The competition is judged by a panel of professionals with extensive online media experience. Judges note that the most successful sites display excellence in writing and editing, in-depth coverage, site design, interactivity, photography, and reactions to breaking news.

Online Pacemaker winners will be announced at the 92nd Annual ACP/CMA National College Media Convention in New Orleans October 23-27.

"I'm really impressed that our students are competitive on a national level. Their work models how online media should serve their audiences," said Dixon.
