Malone University Pioneers enjoying success in first year of full NCAA Division II membership

The Malone University Pioneers are proving to be a force with which to be reckoned in their first year of full NCAA-Division II membership.



The men's golf team – celebrating its 50th anniversary in style – came out on the very top of the leader board in its first-ever attempt at winning the team title at the GLIAC Championships. Among the 14 GLIAC teams, the Pioneers posted a three-day total score of 903 -- one stroke better than co-runners-up Ashland University and Ohio Dominican University. Read the full story here.

The team followed this outstanding performance with a 19-stroke victory at the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional II tournament. Tyler Light, a senior business administration major from Massillon, garnered medalist honors in the process. Read the full story here.

In addition, The Malone University men's golf B team earned a victory among a three-team field at the Phipps Memorial tournament as Kenny Earle, a junior business administration major from Massillon, paced the squad with a three-over-par round of 74 on the day. Read the full story here.


Men's cross country

Women's cross country

Men's and women's cross country teams both continue to climb in rankings – most recently with women at number 12 and men at number 15 nationally! Read the full story here.

Both teams captured the Disney Classic in Orlando, Florida for the second straight year on Saturday, October 12 as the Pioneer men finished first among a 19-team field while the Malone women were tops in a 24-team field. Read the full story here.

Individually, Tina Oprean, a senior communication arts major from Canton, was named USTFCCCA Women's Cross Country National Athlete of the Week when she captured the individual title at the Disney Classic becoming the first Pioneer to earn a USTFCCCA (United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association) Division II National Award. Hays- volleyball

On October 14 that Malone University volleyball player Anna Hays, a junior middle childhood education major from Temperance, Michigan, was named the league's South Division Player of the Week after leading the Pioneers to a 1-1 record in a pair of road matches over the weekend.
