Malone University Jazz Band concert is scheduled for October 29

College of Theology, Arts, and Sciences: The Department of Music presents the Jazz Band in concert Tuesday, October 29 at 7:30 p.m. in the chapel of The Johnson Center for Worship and the Fine Arts, located on the campus at 2600 Cleveland Avenue N.W. in Canton, Ohio. The program – directed by Steven Grimo, D.M.A. – is free and open to the public.
Steven Grimo is a native of Bristol, R.I. and comes from Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs, Colo. where he served as the Music Ministries Department director. He was active in prison fellowship as a certified volunteer counselor and Bible studies instructor for the Colorado Department of Corrections. He began his career in music as a percussionist, attending the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston where he earned a BME in music education and a BA percussion performance. Upon graduation, Steve began his teaching career as an elementary and junior high school music director for the Newton, Md. public schools and the Auburn, Maryland public schools (1978-1980). He later became director of instrumental music at Wachusett Regional High School in Holden, Mass., (1980-85) where he received the National Band Association's Citation of Excellence, and the Stanbury Award from the American School Band Directors Association. His success in commissioning new works and receiving outstanding performance ratings, garnered invitations as a guest conductor and clinician throughout New England. During those years, his early commission projects included, William Kraft, Vaclav Nelhybel, Daniel Pinkham, and Elliot Del Borgo. He was awarded the doctor of musical arts in conducting from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. in May of 1992.
