The Sloth Endowment Fund will host the 11th annual Sloth anniversary game at Harvard Park in Canton, Ohio on Saturday, October 26 at 2 p.m.
In October of 2002, then-Malone students created the sport of "sloth." Sloth is a team sport played on half of a soccer field, in which players on two teams must punt a rugby ball into the goal. Team members can only pass the ball backwards or laterally or kick the ball to one another. Every year, alumni and current students from Malone University gather to play this beloved game, which has united Malone University students since its birth. On Saturday, MU students and alumni will play this game as they have for the past eleven years – but for a purpose other than bragging rights.
Last year, at the tenth anniversary game, alumni created an endowment fund to support current students at Malone University. The Sloth Endowment Fund raises money for scholarship awards for one or more students enrolling at Malone University the following fall semester. This year, Malone University has granted permission for the Sloth Endowment Fund to give away two $1,500 scholarships next fall. These would be the first awarded scholarships from the Sloth Endowment Fund.
The mission statement for the Sloth Endowment Fund is "To develop, promote, and sustain the game of Sloth and the spirit of camaraderie by helping individual students pursuing Christian Higher Education within the Malone Community."
