Malone University student organization Enactus secures grant to support local small business

November 27, 2013 | Release # 6784

Malone University business majors who serve in the student organization Enactus have secured a grant in support of a local small business. This marks the fourth grant the student organization has secured this academic year. The all new grant, the Coca-Cola "Uncap the Possibilities" grant, in the amount of $1,500 will be used to assist Laura Carmany, a 2006 Malone University graduate and owner of The Wholesome Hive.

The Wholesome Hive strives to be a self-sustaining small business that focuses on the physical well-being of the local customer through the education and use of high quality, homemade, chemical-free, all-natural body and home care products. The Wholesome Hive is constantly researching new and different products to add to its line, depending on customer feedback and market trends. Current products feature benefits to many areas of wellness. Due to the lack of preservatives and chemicals in the products, most items have a shorter shelf life than those typically found at the store. Products are sold mostly locally in Canton, Ohio, at Farmers' Markets, Craft Fairs, and by word-of-mouth.

Enactus is an international non-profit organization that works with leaders in business and higher education to mobilize university students to make a difference in their communities while developing the skills to become socially responsible business leaders. Participating students form teams on their university campuses and apply business concepts to develop outreach projects that improve the quality of life and standard of living for people in need. An annual series of regional and national competitions provides a forum for teams to present the results of their projects, and to be evaluated by business leaders serving as judges. National champion teams advance to the prestigious Enactus World Cup. In addition to the community aspect of the program, Enactus's leadership and career initiatives create meaningful opportunities for learning and exchange among the participants as well as the placement of students and alumni with companies in search of emerging talent.
