Malone University students to write and stage plays within 24 hours January 24-25
January 14, 2014 | Release # 6814
They call it 24-Hour Theatre. Within that span of time, Malone University students will audition actors; write five one-act plays; memorize lines; rehearse; create sets, costumes, props and lighting cues; sometimes even compose musical scores; and perform the entire finished project before a live audience.
The starting gun goes off at 9 p.m. Friday, January 24 with auditions, and the complete plays will be staged Saturday, January 25 at 9 p.m. in the Performing Arts Hall of Founders Hall, located on the campus at 2600 Cleveland Avenue N.W. in Canton, Ohio.
The program is free and open to the public. Seating is first come, first served. It is highly recommended to arrive early, however seating will not take place before 9 p.m., as the actors will most likely be rehearsing up to curtain time!
The purpose of this unique form is to highlight collaboration, improvisation, and creativity – all essential components of theatre. Launched 10 years ago, a number of Malone University alumni now credit the experience with giving them the skills necessary to go on to perform alongside notables in Second City of Chicago and The Upright Citizen's Brigade of Los Angeles.
Throughout the 24 hours, Malone University media students will be documenting behind-the-scenes action with a film crew.
