be:justice Coordinates ABC Fair in Memory of Shannon Wilkes

2.3.14 | Release # 6829

The Malone University student-led service organization be:justice will host an early Valentine’s Day fundraiser on Monday, February 10, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Stewart Room of the Randall Campus Center, located on the campus at 2600 Cleveland Avenue N.W. in Canton.

The ABC Fair will allow individuals and student organizations to sell Arts, Baked Goods & Crafts, with 10% of all proceeds going toward a donation to an emergency student aid fund in memory of Shannon Wilkes, a young Malone alumna who died on September 17, 2013, following a courageous battle with cancer.

The event is being organized by Kelsey Case, a senior English major from North Canton. Kelsey plans to read original poetry in memory of Shannon at the beginning of the event.

As a student, Shannon Wilkes was always concerned for others. When a classmate’s father had passed away, she raised money for an airline ticket to make sure the young man could be home with his family in California during that difficult time. Her concerns for students in extremely difficult circumstances resulted in the creation of the Silk - Parents Council Emergency Student Aid Fund.

Malone University, a Christian university for the arts, sciences, and professions in the liberal arts tradition, affiliated with the Evangelical Friends Church, awards both undergraduate and graduate degrees in more than 100 academic programs.
