Malone University collaborates with Goodwill Industries International, Inc. and Computers Again Program
February 14, 2014 | Release # 6835
For the past 14 months (since December 2012), Malone University has been donating old computer hardware and electronics to Goodwill's "Computers Again" program. More than 80 of the University's computers have found new life; having been reconditioned and then sold at a discount to local low-income families.
The Goodwill "Computers Again" program takes donations of gently used or outdated computer hardware. It then reconditions that hardware, often combining several broken systems into one working computer and then reloads the computer with working software. Hardware that cannot be salvaged is recycled.
"Malone is committed to the local Canton community and to using our resources wisely," said Adam Klemann, support and infrastructure manager at Malone University. "The collaboration with Goodwill's 'Computers Again' program is a natural way to meet both of these objectives."
"When I first met with Goodwill to discuss the opportunity to 'recycle' old hardware I never imagined the impact it could have with our community at large," said Mike Felcyn, technical support specialist. "It's such a great example of Malone's foundational principle, 'Christ's Kingdom First.' I am so glad to be a part of such a wonderful service."
