New Majors / Academic Programs at Malone University, Fall semester, 2014

July 2, 2014 | Release # 6932

Malone University will have the following new offerings of majors and academic programs beginning Fall semester, 2014.

The College of Theology, Arts, and Sciences:

The Department of Social Work will launch a new associate's to bachelor's degree program, designed to assist persons who have already acquired some college credits, but whose schedules require evening courses in order to obtain a bachelor's degree in social work. This rigorous "2 + 2" (associates degree plus 2 years) program will prepare students for the next level of professional practice when they graduate. Malone University graduates boast a high licensure passing rate with most employed in a social work position within six months of graduation. The program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE); graduates are eligible for advanced standing in many master of social work (MSW) programs, often allowing alumni to complete a master's degree in one year of full-time study rather than two. The program also has specific opportunities to study in Denmark, Romania and Uganda. Students with international interest can combine this major with a dual major or a minor in global studies. Click here for more information.

The Department of Bible, Theology, and Ministry will offer three new majors bringing the total to seven, including the pre-seminary Bible and theology major. All have associated minors and internships with hundreds of practical hours in a ministry. New majors include:

Pastoral ministry. The major in Pastoral Ministry is designed to provide an understanding of the Bible, Christian theology, and the practice of pastoral ministry in today's world. This major is excellent preparation for students who desire to follow God's call to pastoral leadership in a variety of possible ministry contexts or to prepare for graduate studies in ministry of any kind.

Christian worship. The major in Christian Worship is designed to provide an understanding of the Bible, Christian theology, and the practice of Christian worship in today's world. This major is excellent preparation for students who desire to follow God's call to lead Christian worship in a variety of possible ministry contexts and to prepare for graduate studies in ministry. Students who want to focus on formally developing their performance skills are encouraged to take selected courses in the Department of Music and/or to consider pursuing a minor through the Department of Music.

Missions and cross-cultural ministry, (formerly offered only as a minor). Do you want to serve as an overseas - or even domestic cross-cultural - missionary?  The major in missions and cross-cultural ministries will provide students with an understanding of the Bible, Christian theology, and the history and practice of cross-cultural ministry.

The School of Business and Leadership

Business accounting management will be added as a new major to the already popular accelerated degree completion Malone Management Program (MMP). This new concentration will allow students to gain the skills needed to perform such duties as bookkeeping, payroll, auditing, tax return preparation, accounts receivable, and more. All MMP majors are available online or in a traditional classroom setting and may be completed in 15 months.

The School is combining the accelerated bachelor's degree in organizational management with the MAOL (master of arts in organizational leadership) to create an even more expedient means for a student to earn the master's degree.  In the combined degree program, students will be able to earn credits that upon completion of the undergraduate degree transfer to the graduate program. The advantages are the program shortens the time to complete a master's degree and offerings a substantial savings on overall tuition costs.  Both degrees can be earned in a total of two to three years.

The School of Nursing and Health Sciences is introducing an online hybrid master of science in nursing (MSN) degree that brings the benefits of the hybrid model to the advanced degree level. As its predecessor hybrid RN to BSN program, this newest hybrid program will offer the best of both worlds: the flexibility of online learning with the proven approach of hands-on learning.
