Innovative idea at Malone University – A Hostel for Commuter Students!
August 6, 2014 | Release # 6941
Malone University will offer something brand new in the way of student housing this fall. The University is opening – for the first time – a hostel for current commuter students. The arrangement provides an affordable overnight accommodation on campus to support academic success as well as involvement in campus activities. This special student housing is also available for graduate students, and may become particularly useful to commuters during poor weather conditions.
According to Melody Scott, dean of students, "'We know students have a stronger academic experience when they have access to campus, and we wanted to continue to meet the evolving needs of college students."
The idea - based on a model begun at the University of British Columbia - offers a creative use of six available rooms in underclassmen residence halls. Accommodations for each student costs $30/night with linens provided for an extra nominal fee. Rooms include an XL twin bed, desk, chair, and wifi. Cable television and a microwave are available in a community lounge area. Reservations can be made a maximum of two nights in a seven day period, not to exceed six days per month. Same-day reservations are available until 3 p.m.
The service will be available Sundays through Thursdays during the academic year and, during their stay, guests will be expected to adhere to the Christian university's Community Agreement.
