Malone University welcomes guest artists Ellen Scholl, Christopher Scholl, Kevin J. Bylsma for Faculty Artist Recital

Malone University will welcome guest artists Ellen Scholl, mezzo-soprano, and Christopher Scholl, tenor as part of the Faculty Artist Series on Monday, March 13, at 7:30 p.m. at the Stewart Room of the “Barn” (Randall Campus Center) on campus. The concert is free and open to the public.

Mezzo-soprano Ellen Scholl sang professionally for 15 years in Europe, where she presented recitals and performed extensively in operas and oratorios. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Northern Illinois University and a master’s degree from De Paul University, and has sung in Munich with the Bavarian State Opera. Notable opera roles include Cherubino in The Marriage of Figaro, Dorabella in Cosi fan tutte, Octavian in Der Rosenkavalier and Conception in L’Heure Espagnol. She has served as a member of the voice faculty at the Christian Albrecht Universitaet in Kiel, Germany and is a two-time winner of the Metropolitan Opera district competition.

Tenor Christopher Scholl returned to the United States after almost 20 years in Europe, where he enjoyed a highly-successful career in opera, oratorio and recitals, performing in Munich, Mannheim, Kiel, Leipzig, Paris, Marseilles and Trieste. He joined the voice faculty of College of Musical Arts at Bowling Green State University in 1997. Since returning to the United States, he has performed around the country, including the Messiah with the Toledo Symphony and Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the Detroit Civic Orchestra. Most recently, he sang a series of recitals in Bangkok, Thailand.

Since 2006, Kevin J. Bylsma has been the Instructor of Opera and Vocal Coach for the College of Musical Arts at Bowling Green State University. In addition, he serves Toledo Opera as Head of Music Preparation and Chorus Master. Active as an organist, recitalist, and conductor, Mr. Bylsma is the Associate Organist of the Historic Mariners’ Church of Detroit, and the Co-founder and Artistic Director of the Ann Arbor Festival of Song. Mr. Bylsma is also a music director and coach for OperaWorks, an intensive opera training program, based in Los Angeles, Calif.
