Into the Streets
An exciting part of Orientation is "Into the Streets," in which you'll get the opportunity to serve the Stark County community either Thursday or Friday afternoon. You'll go to different places in the community with other first-year students to participate in various acts of service. This gives you an opportunity to get a glimpse of the community beyond campus and to offer some assistance to others.
At the heart of Malone's mission is preparing men and women for a life of service to the church, community, and world following the example of Jesus Christ, who "did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many" (Mark 10:45, NIV).
Malone has an established relationship with the community partners you'll be serving - and they always look forward to getting to know you! There are a variety of ways you can serve: from playing games with the elderly to serving children to working outdoors. Please wear something you don't mind getting dirty and closed-toe shoes (no flip-flops!). If it rains, you'll need a raincoat if you plan to work outdoors. You'll sign up for these projects at Orientation. Some of the types of work we'll be doing are listed below.
Look over this list to give you an idea of what you may sign up for when you get here:
- Painting (outside and inside)
- Yard work and landscaping
- Clearing park/walking trails

- Visiting with senior citizens
- Home repair (don't worry - there will be professionals on hand!)
