Details: Learn from and work with our urban neighbors in Canton through Lighthouse Ministries . The Lighthouse is an urban youth outreach organization that offers programming to support the at-risk youth living in it's Southeast Canton neighborhood.
Our time with the Lighthouse will be divided three ways:
- We will work with their after school program each day, at the elementary school, helping students with homework, playing with them in recreation, helping with art class, etc.
- We will spend a portion of each day learning about poverty and the forces/decisions that seem to perpetuate poverty here in the U.S.
- We will work at the Lighthouse and other similar agencies and/or with local homeowners helping with small work projects that need taken care of. This trip will stretch and challenge us in many ways and give us a new understanding of the city we live in.
This trip qualifies for the community service component for the course SWK 211: Community Based Cross Cultural Experience.
