Chapel Schedule

Chapel is held in the Sanctuary of the Johnson Center for Worship and the Fine Arts. ss slide

Chapel Times

  • Every Tuesday, 10:30-11:10 a.m.

  • Every Wednesday, 10:05-10:45 a.m.

  • Most Fridays, 10:05-10:45 a.m.

  • Up to five other chapel credit-bearing opportunities will also be offered each semester, scheduled on weekday afternoons or evenings.

We are currently working on finishing the Fall schedule.  It will be posted by mid-summer 2012. 

 

Spring 2012 Chapel Schedule

January's chapels will revolve around the topic "Christianity 101" as we talk about the basics of faith and its implications for everyday living.  January 31 will be the launch of our annual Signpost Series, which are chapels where the speaker talks about how faith weaves into their academic discipline or area of expertise.  Signpost Series chapels will be scattered throughout February, March, and April, and are indicated in the schedule below.


Tuesday, January 10:  Pastor Randy Heckert, University chaplain, speaks on why the Christian faith is true and the faith that we follow.

Wednesday, January 11:  Deb Robinson, director of Alumni and Parent Relations, shares her faith story and how Malone impacted her Christian journey.

Tuesday, January 17: Pastor Stan Hinshaw, lead pastor, Canton First Friends Church, goes through the biblical drama today and tomorrow. 
Special musical guest Carolina Story.

Wednesday, January 18:  Pastor Stan Hinshaw, lead pastor, Canton First Friends Church, continues to go through the biblical drama.

Tuesday, January 24:  Understanding Spiritual Disciplines - choose from three chapel breakout rooms:

  • Contemplative prayer with Celia King, director of service learning, JC Chapel 

  • Sabbath-Keeping with Pastor Randy Heckert, University chaplain, JC Sanctuary 

  • Lectio Divina (divine reading of the Scriptures) with Tanya Hershberger, CCO campus minister, JC Dining Hall

Wednesday, January 25: Ron Sider, Ph.D., speaks on how to integrate your faith with everyday living. Sider is also a participant in the Worldview Forum at 7 p.m. on January 24.

Tuesday, January 31: Robin Capcara opens the Spring Semester Signpost Series with a talk on the integration of faith and life. 
Special musical guest Leora.

Wednesday February 1: Jeff Leon, CCO campus minister will be speaking.
Special guests: the Malone Chancel Players (Malone's student drama outreach team).

Tuesday, February 7: Dr. David King, President of Malone University.

Wednesday, February 8: Comedians Kerri Pomarolli and Ron McGhee bring a clean, fun side of Christianity into chapel; sponsored by Malone Student Activities Council.

Tuesday, February 14: Joel Soza, Ph.D., professor of Old Testament at Malone, gives a Signpost Series talk on faith and food.

Wednesday, February 15: John Williams, Ph.D., general superintendent of the EFC-ER (Evangelical Friends Church-Eastern Region) gives a Signpost Series talk on faith and Evangelical Friends missions.
Special guests Break It Down, Malone's dance club.

Tuesday, February 21: the Malone Forensics Team leads this Signpost Series chapel with a reader's theatre on "rest".  Musical guest Justin McRoberts.

Wednesday, February 22: Pastor Randy Heckert, University chaplain, conducts an Ash Wednesday service.

Tuesday, February 28:  Author Gina Ochsner gives a Signpost Series lecture on faith and literature.

Wednesday, February 29:  Alumni Chapel - students attend chapel by department; locations TBA.

Tuesday, March 13:  Woolman Lecture Series: Philip Jenkins, Ph.D., who is the Edwin Erle Sparks professor of Humanities at Pennsylvania State University and Distinguished senior fellow at the Institute for Studies of Religion at Baylor University.

Wednesday, March 14: Cherie Parsons, Ph.D., and Marcia Everett, Ph.D., facilitate a Signpost Series Chapel on faith, grief, and loss.

Tuesday, March 20: Signpost Series Chapel on faith and politics. Speakers TBA.

Wednesday, March 21: Senior preacher Chapel, led by a Bible/Theology senior selected by the Department of Theology.

Tuesday, March 27: Actress Vondria Bergen presents her one-woman play that brings real women of the Bible to life. 

Wednesday, March 28: Actress Vondria Bergen continues with drama bringing real women of the Bible to life.

Tuesday, April 3: Exploring Worship Chapel - students will choose from three locations at the Johnson Center. Speakers will be announced closer to the date.

Wednesday, April 4: Pastor Randy Heckert, University chaplain, speaks on Passion week.

Tuesday, April 10: Walt Mueller, founder and president of the Center for Parent/Youth Understanding, gives a Signpost Series talk on faith and culture.

Wednesday, April 11: Walt Mueller, founder and president of the Center for Parent/Youth Understanding, speaks on understanding culture.

Tuesday, April 17: Excellence Chapel, featuring University faculty and staff awards.

Wednesday, April 18: Senior Chapel, presented by the Senior class officers.
