First Year Wilderness Trip
September 9-11, 2011
Come on this outdoor trip and find direction for your first year, meet new friends and experience the adventures of wilderness travel!
The First Year Wilderness Trip is for incoming students. You will be part of a small group of Malone first-year students backpacking, canoeing, or rock climbing in a wilderness area. Tenting, outdoor cooking and wilderness living will be a part of this adventure. There will also be time for reflection and discussion about college life and faith in God. Two outdoor leaders will guide the group, lead discussions and oversee safety. You do not need any prior experience or fancy gear! This year’s trip is September 9-11 (two weeks after classes begin).
The cost is $40, which covers food, transportation and equipment (tents, sleeping bags, packs, etc.). The deposit is non—refundable after classes begin on Monday, August 29.
Choose one of these three trips:
- Rock climbing at Seneca Rocks
- Canoeing trip along the Clarion River
- Backpacking trip to the Allegheny National Forest
"Coming to college for the first time can be overwhelming and exciting. It's nice to get away for a weekend and be outdoors where you can refocus your mind, relax, and take a break from school work." ~ Samantha
"The First Year wilderness trip helped me to connect to a lot of people that I'm still friends with three years later, as well as opened up my desire to continue to do these kind of trips." ~ Nate
"Not only was the First Year Wilderness Trip a fun experience with great fellowship, but I was also challenged physically, spiritually and mentally. I really felt that God used that time to prepare me for my first year at Malone." ~Kelsey
