Programs in DeVol
Nike Airband: Airband is in its 21st year at Malone. It's a lip-syncing contest that draws nearly 1,000 in attendance, one of the largest on-campus events of the year. Students put their acts together and are judged on a few categories to then receive the Golden Nike trophy and a cash prize. Airband also sponsors a local non-profit to highlight and support each year. I'm proud that on the 20th Anniversary year some of my DeVol Dudes won with their act of "Squirrels On Campus." www.facebook.com/MaloneNAB
DeVol Dude of the Week:The DeVol Dude of the Week is voted on by myself and the RA staff of DeVol. We look for residents who demonstrate character and community enhancing qualities. The Dude receives a DDotW t-shirt and gets the spotlight profile by the main entrance.
Bearded DeVol Contest:The Bearded DeVol Contest is simple. Starting on October 1 through the first week of December, DeVol Beards are grown. Clean shaven at the start. Grow out the beard and there are four categories that are awarded. Best Overall Beard, Best Dressed Beard, Creepiest Beard, and Needs Miracle Grow Beard. We hold the final judging of the competition at the Haviland Christmas House.
Meet the Staff
"Although the fall of 2014 will be the start of my first year at Malone as the Resident Director of DeVol, I'm not new to working with college students. In college I served as both an RA and an Assistant Resident Director, and I am currently pursuing my masters degree in Higher Education from Geneva College. I grew up in a small, rural area in southern New Jersey (yes, farms exist in NJ, I promise!) and graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University with a degree in History and Theology. I love anything that involves getting outside, particularly biking and ultimate frisbee. While indoors, I stay occupied with some combination of board games (ask me about Spicy Uno), coffee-drinking, and watching movies. My goal for DeVol is to allow it to be a safe, affirming place for men to explore their identities in Christ. I'm truly looking forward to making Malone my new home and I hope to see this place become home for you as well!"
