Programs in DeVol
Nike Airband: Airband is in its 21st year at Malone. It's a lip-syncing contest that draws nearly 1,000 in attendance, one of the largest on-campus events of the year. Students put their acts together and are judged on a few categories to then receive the Golden Nike trophy and a cash prize. Airband also sponsors a local non-profit to highlight and support each year. I'm proud that on the 20th Anniversary year some of my DeVol Dudes won with their act of "Squirrels On Campus." www.facebook.com/MaloneNAB
DeVol Dude of the Week:The DeVol Dude of the Week is voted on by myself and the RA staff of DeVol. We look for residents who demonstrate character and community enhancing qualities. The Dude receives a DDotW t-shirt and gets the spotlight profile by the main entrance.
Bearded DeVol Contest:The Bearded DeVol Contest is simple. Starting on October 1 through the first week of December, DeVol Beards are grown. Clean shaven at the start. Grow out the beard and there are four categories that are awarded. Best Overall Beard, Best Dressed Beard, Creepiest Beard, and Needs Miracle Grow Beard. We hold the final judging of the competition at the Haviland Christmas House.
Meet the Staff
"I've been at Malone since 2009 and have enjoyed getting to know a variety of students over these years. I studied Counseling and Sociology at Grace College in Winona Lake, IN and have completed my MA in Organizational Leadership here at Malone. I'm a NE Ohio native from Wooster OH, so I empathize with all the Cleveland fans, hoping that it is Cleveland's year in something other than snow storms. I believe college is a pivotal transition period that sets the course for adulthood and it's a joy to walk along side students, empowering and encouraging them to deeper holistic growth. Most importantly, I believe the way students wrestle with understanding faith in Jesus Christ will inform how they approach all other parts of life. When I'm away from campus I enjoy writing music and playing shows. I also enjoy good conversation over coffee, meals, or football games." -Rhett Edwards
