Davenport Derby

Most call them couches. Others call them sofas. But to the 70 and over crowd, they are davenports. Really, it doesn't matter what you call it, only that you race it. The Davenport Derby was started in 1999 and has been run every year. All participants have a couch that they decorate to a specific theme. Prizes are handed out for best overall theme and for first and second place in the race itself. The race is only about 100 feet down and 100 feet back but racers manage to get a lot of momentum in a very short amount of time. The winning couch receives the coveted “Golden Couch” and a fistful of cash. Come check it out during each fall semester.
