About the position

The Department of Education at Malone University is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time position as Education Chair. Reporting to the Provost, and collaborating with the Associate Provost for Program Support and Improvement and other department chairs, the Education Chair manages the oversees the department of education (all programs) within the context of university functions, fosters excellence in teaching and learning, provides program development and accreditation expertise by monitoring and facilitating assessment and accreditation requirements and processes. 

Responsibilities

(The following duties are not to be considered a complete list of duties and responsibilities assigned to this position.) The director will function as an academic administrator with the following responsibilities:

I. Departmental Oversight 

  1. Assign instructional responsibilities, prepare course schedules and teaching loads;
  2. Prepare and monitor annual budget, including funds for grants and appropriations;
  3. Coordinate department business meetings, events, and awarding of student honors
  4. Review and update departmental/programmatic information continued in university academic catalogs annually;
  5. Cooperate with Graduate and Professional Studies and the Registrar’s office in the evaluation of graduate program applicants and transfer students
  6. Chair and coordinate deliberations of the Graduate Program Initial Licensure Admission review Committee;
  7. Respond to student inquiries and concerns regarding course and faculty issues; serve as departmental evaluator in case of student appeals to the department, ensure high quality academic advising in the department;
  8. Recruit and retain qualified faculty members (full time and adjunct) to meet program needs;
  9. Represent the department on select university committees
  10. Collaborate with the Director of Library Services and program faculty to ensure appropriate materials are available for student learning

II. Faculty Support and Evaluation

  1. Collaborate with and provide support for faculty in the development and delivery of instructional assignments;
  2. Advocate for and facilitate faculty members ongoing professional development
  3. Review and give feedback to faculty regarding teaching evaluations and student concerns
  4. Observe faculty teaching regularly
  5. Make recommendations regarding promotion and tenure

III. Accreditation

  1. Provide leadership and advisement to educator preparation faculty within and associated to the department on matters related to educator licensure program development, approval requirements, accreditation standards and assessment;
  2. Collaborate with the Licensure and Data Coordinator to oversee the on-campus tracking systems and processes related to teacher candidate assessments and evaluation, preparedness and eligibility for licensure;
  3. Assist the Licensure and Data Coordinator to engage stakeholders and program alumni in evaluation of program effectiveness and community needs for changes in existing programs or the creation of new programs.
  4. Conduct twice yearly meetings with the Malone Education Advisory Board;
  5. Serve as program liaison to external accrediting and approval agencies to ensure educator licensure programs continue to meet the requirements and standards set forth by those agencies
  6. Coordinate tasks related to accreditation and approvals and facilitate preparation of required reports for internal and external stakeholders, organize site visits and follow up rejoinders.

Required Qualifications 

  • Must have an earned terminal degree in an appropriate discipline and ability to garner the respect of peers
  • Must be a Christian able to affirm Malone’s doctrinal statement and community agreement, 
  • Experiences in leadership and/or accreditation in a higher education context
  • Teaching experience in higher education and/or P-12 education
  • Attention to detail balanced by an innovative spirit and ability to promote engagement and collaborative problem solving.
