Gateways

Undergraduate Gateways:

In the undergraduate teacher education programs, three "gateways" help students mark their progress toward earning a teaching license. Additional information is available in the Teacher Education Handbook (pick up a copy in the Education Office). Each gateway includes meeting the criteria listed below:

Gateway 1:  Admission to Teacher Education

  • Cumulative 2.75 grade point average
  • Completion of 45 semester hours
  • Completion of COMM 110 with a B- or better
  • Completion of EDUC 112, 232, and SPED 243
  • Reading, writing, and mathematics proficiency (ACT subtest scores of 20 in English, Math, and Reading: Praxis I score of 175 in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics sections; or grade of B or higher in MATH 112, ENG 120, GEN 150
  • Earning “satisfactory” designation on Dispositions Assessment
  • Recommendations by three faculty members
  • Resolution of any professional concerns

Gateway 2:  Candidacy for Clinical Experience

  • Cumulative 2.75 grade point average
  • Major 2.75 grade point average
  • Satisfactory evaluations on all field experiences
  • Acceptance into academic major
  • Earning "satisfactory" designation on Dispositions Assessment
  • Resolution of any professional concerns

Gateway 3:  Recommendation for Licensure & Professional Practice

  • Admission to clinical experience
  • Cumulative 2.75 grade point average
  • Academic major 2.75 grade point average
  • Satisfactory designation on clinical evaluation
  • Satisfactory designation on Dispositions Assessment
  • Passing required Praxis II content exam(s) as specified by the Ohio Department of Education
  • Passing required Praxis II Principles of Learning and Teaching exam as specified by the Ohio Department of Education
  • Completion of all degree requirements
  • Resolution of any professional concerns
