Staff & Faculty SFO Application

The Office of Spiritual Formation seeks to offer a balance and variety of credit-bearing events in any given semester, and so reserves the right to determine which faculty/staff events will be approved for Spiritual Formation credit.

All approved Spiritual Formation Opportunities (SFOs), regardless of length, extend one Spiritual Formation credit to student attendees.  This guideline helps to de-emphasize the time commitment of SFOs while re-emphasizing the involvement and spiritual growth components of SFOs.

Please submit this form at least 14 days prior to the event and before the academic mid-point of the semester. Proposed SFOs should:

  1. Align with the Office of Spiritual Formation’s mission
  2. Focus on at least one of the curricular emphases
  3. Run a minimum of 40 minutes
  4. Be available to a wide range of students
  5. Be well-organized and publicized to students
  6. Follow Malone’s room scheduling procedures
  7. Receive prior approval from the Director of Spiritual Formation

Mission Statement / Curricular Emphases

Mission Statement
The mission of the Malone University Office of Spiritual Formation is to contribute to students’ spiritual formation by building them up to know, love and serve Jesus Christ. We provide Christian faith development opportunities for individuals and groups in a variety of campus contexts.

Curricular Emphases:
1) Biblical Study: SFOs embrace and dig into the biblical story through making observations, interpretations, and developing applications of the Scriptures. Studying Scriptures helps us gain insights into God, our relationship with others, and creation.
2) Spiritual Disciplines: SFOs focus on the use and practice of spiritual disciplines as a means for helping students be attentive to the Holy Spirit’s work. Content is focused on the historical and biblical teaching of various spiritual disciplines and their function and purpose in ongoing spiritual formation.
3) Faith Integration: SFOs expose students to foundational principles of Christian faith that inform a theology of life, work and play. Students will learn healthy, holy rhythms that reflect a deep love for God and the Holy Spirit’s work in our life and community.
