Malone University honored: (L-R) Rebecca Eagle-Malone, Jeff Goff, Lauren Seifert, and Scott Waalkes

Each year, four faculty members are honored for their commitments to teaching, service, scholarship and creative expression, and adjunct teaching as a result of nomination by students, faculty, and administration. This year, there were 24 faculty nominated for one or more of the four awards.

Celebrating Excellence

Each recipient is passionate about their field of expertise and intentional about integrating faith into the classroom.

Distinguished Faculty Award for Teaching: Jeff Goff

“Jeff Goff, professor of chemistry, brings the perfect mix of excitement and structure to his classroom that makes class engaging and worthwhile…. He explains a subject by drawing connections to ideas that students understand and makes the topic easy to understand… He never fails to let his students know that questions are acceptable and encouraged and never makes me feel dumb if I have questions.”

Distinguished Faculty Award for Service: Scott Waalkes

“Scott Waalkes, professor of international politics, also serves as director of our general education program and co-director of the Pendle Hill initiative. His work with those initiatives is significant. Since Pendle Hill is now a cornerstone of our marketing and admissions approach, as well as embedded in our curriculum, it is particularly fitting to acknowledge his role in its creation and implementation.”

Distinguished Faculty Award for Scholarship and Creative Expression: Lauren Seifert

“Lauren Seifert, professor of psychology, is a dedicated researcher and scholar. She serves on three editorial boards and actively reviews manuscripts… She received a National Science Foundation grant for her Health Co-Inquiry Research Project in recent years. She has chosen faculty members and students to assist with this research and some of these faculty members and students have co-authored articles with her that are either published or in process of being published…  It would be so easy for her to complete her research and publication on her own, but she takes the time to pour her knowledge and enthusiasm for research and scholarship into others… Dr. Seifert has stated that she seeks God's guidance in pursuing her research and scholarship endeavors and she is dedicated to engage in research aimed at easing the suffering of people with chronic conditions, which is admirable and inspiring.”

Distinguished Faculty Award for Adjunct Teaching: Rebecca Eagle-Malone

“Professor Rebecca Eagle-Malone tries to focus class content on the future career goals of the students… She cares so much about her students, takes the time to understand everyone's needs, and makes sure everyone learns to their best ability… She talks with her students about their learning styles and abilities, and creates a stress-free environment. She is happy and vibrant during her lectures and is always there to help during her labs. Since being in her classes, I have done so much better in my academics and in retaining my learning; I wish she was my teacher for every class at Malone.”
