Sandy Knauf, assistant professor of nursing, has been awarded a 2022 DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nursing Faculty.

"I consider it an honor to be recognized for an award that exemplifies compassionate nursing care,” said Knauf. “My passion for meeting patients where they are and helping them make tiny steps toward a healthier tomorrow motivates me to always look for new ways to make a difference in my work as a Family Nurse Practitioner."

The award, given by the DAISY Foundation which honors nurses internationally, is given to student and alumni-nominated faculty who serve as a role model and mentor for nursing, demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching, learning, and nursing, demonstrate respect for learning through caring, confident, patient, and integrous instruction, and develop a collaborative working relationship with students and colleagues to provide fair and unbiased treatment of individual students.

All of these qualities are apparent according to Knauf’s nomination for the award.

“She has been dedicated to students' success in becoming the best Christian nurses they can be. She has been a role model for continual learning, always seeking out the most current knowledge of practice and patient care to share with her students. She is wonderfully creative about ways to engage students and help them to discover their gifts and abilities. Most importantly, she is a deep listener who has a heart for Jesus that shines from within.”

At the center of Knauf’s success as a nursing faculty member is her deep passion for the practice of nursing, as well as an unwavering commitment to Christ’s kingdom first.

“As a Malone University nursing faculty member, I translate that passion from my own practice to commission students to use all that God has given them when caring for patients and families that they will encounter in their own nursing careers,” said Knauf. “My hope is to provide students with a foundation for utilizing the most up to date clinical evidence in nursing care coupled with viewing that care through a Christ-oriented lens."

As faculty recipient, Knauf joins Carlee George ‘22 and Renae (Rodocker) Snyder ‘98, ‘22 as recipients of a DAISY award in 2022. To read about George’s and Snyder’s award, as well as more about the DAISY award as a whole, click here.
