The Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges will induct Merv Yoder, a 1975 graduate of Malone, into its Hall of Excellence.

Yoder is the director of the Herman B. Wells Center for Pediatric Research at Indiana University School of Medicine and Riley Hospital for Children. His work has led to ground-breaking discoveries for neurological patients and is adding to the body of knowledge seeking the elusive cure to cancer.

Yoder has published more than 150 peer-reviewed and invited review articles and is co-author of a textbook in its fourth edition on the practical care of critically ill newborn infants. His research interests are broad and include asthma, allergic diseases, blood cell development, oncology, cardiac development, diabetes, gene therapy, genetic blood disorders, and neurobiology.

OFIC initiated the Hall of Excellence program to honor the contributions of graduates of member institutions. Inductees are chosen by a committee of OFIC presidential and corporate trustees based on the criteria of professional achievement: impact on society through service, leadership, scholarship, minority affairs, sciences, research, arts or elected office; and service to alma mater.

Malone graduates honored with induction in previous years include missionary and educator Meredythe Scheflen and United States Ambassador David Rawson.
