July 2020 Update

Current Project Status: August of 2020

In late July, 2020, the Hoover Foundation of Canton made a gift of $750,000 to support the Pioneer Park multi-field complex project. The Hoover family and the foundation have been faithful and generous supporters of Malone and we are grateful for the opportunities they have created for our students through their decades of support. With this transformational gift, we are very close to having the funding necessary to move forward to completion with the competition field-portion of the project when the construction season begins again next spring.

The Competition Field component of the facility will be able to host Pioneer soccer and lacrosse, as well as competitions in those sports at all levels. The current scope of the project may include both NCAA-level softball and both youth baseball & softball playing surfaces. It will also serve as a training/recreation venue for a multitude of intramural and youth sports, as well as a setting for concerts and other outdoor performances. Between July, 2019 and February, 2020, Malone secured over $800,000 in cash donations and pledges from partners like Bill & Pearl Lemmon and Home Savings Bank to support the final development of the competition field.

In addition, in that same time frame beginning in July, 2019 to date, we are so grateful for “gift in kind” partnerships from construction & development asset partners that have been secured from Canton-area firms with strong affinities for Malone and our mission. These partnerships with businesses like ForeverLawn and Hilscher-Clarke Electric are essential to our vision for the project and its value to the community and region.

Pre-construction portions of the project are complete. Elements included removal of topsoil, the addition of 185 metric tons of clean fill material comprising the generous gift from the DeVille Corporation, excavation to engineered standards to accommodate our playing surfaces and preliminary site preparation work completed by the Wenger Group.

We agreed to accept more earth from our construction partners in exchange for their work to develop two additional practice/club/intramural sports fields on Malone’s East Campus. These multipurpose fields at East Campus are natural grass and are being developed for programming this school year.
