Kaylyn Jones ‘21, Marketing and Communication Arts

A passion for social justice and fashion marketing led Kaylyn Jones ‘21 to pursue a double major in marketing and communication arts, with a concentration in public relations. By working to initiate change, Jones is on track to pursue her goal of managing a fashion business.

Jones’ original plan was to attend fashion school in New York City, but her goals shifted down a different path. “My older brother was going to school at Malone and so I decided to visit. After witnessing the community-oriented campus and with the close proximity to my home, I made the choice to attend,” she said.

As a member of student senate, a social media ambassador for the University, and a resident assistant in Blossom Hall, Jones has learned how to communicate effectively through real-life experiences.

“My involvement on campus has taught me how to have patience with those who are different than me,” she said. “In the public relations field, you work directly with people, so I have learned various strategies to set aside differences and market for certain populations.”

The faculty at Malone, including Ann Lawson, instructor of business, have made an impact on Jones’ college experience.

“The faculty here not only want you to learn the material they teach, but they truly care about their students,” she said. “They are so passionate about their courses and are willing to spend time with you one-on-one.”

Regardless of differences in beliefs, race, or immigration status, Jones wants to impact the community through embracing inclusivity.

“I am very passionate about social justice and diversity in the marketing field,” she said. “I want to own a diverse company where we can all work together for the common good and everyone will feel loved and welcomed. Through helping to create change, I hope to initiate a domino effect of positivity.”
