Noah Sommers '21, Accounting, Finance and Business Administration

For Noah Sommers ‘21, fostering professional relationships is a key factor in his future career. He chose to triple-major in accounting, finance, and business administration, and gained practical internship experiences to help him stay on track to pursue his passions.

Sommers chose to attend Malone for a variety of reasons, including the proximity to his home and the atmosphere on campus.

“I knew I wanted to attend a Christian college that incorporated Christian values and teachings in the classroom and through campus events. I felt that Malone met that desire well. Additionally, both of my parents attended Malone and spoke highly of their experiences, which gave Malone an advantage over other schools when making my final college decision,” he said.

Working with numbers has always come naturally to Sommers, so majoring in finance and business administration was an easy choice.

“My original intention was to become a financial advisor after graduation,” he said. “I decided to pick up the accounting major at the beginning of my junior year because I learned from my first two years at Malone that accounting was my strongest subject.”

Sommers credits Albert Smith, associate professor of business administration, for having a tremendous impact on his educational experience.

“Bert’s teaching style of reviewing the material and homework questions in class, helping us with our assigned case studies, and preparing for the exams together has made it easy for me to comprehend and retain the accounting information. I appreciate his teaching consistency and dedication,” he said.

Passion, dedication, and educational experience led Sommers to land an internship with an Akron-area accounting firm, David F. & Company.

“I primarily worked with analyzing tax information, specifically by extracting data from documents and entering it into tax software that helps generate tax returns,” he explained. “My internship experiences have opened my eyes to the amount of time and precision necessary within my field. They have also led me to grow personally because I’ve improved my people skills and experienced the value of teamwork.”

Once he graduates, Sommers is ready to take his skills to the next level through professional collaboration.

“One thing I know for sure about life after college is that I want to work for a company that will allow me to work with others towards growing and prospering its business. I’m excited to use my degrees to pursue a fulfilling career.”
