Compete in our annual Malone Writer’s Prize contest
The Malone Writers Prize is an annual creative writing contest that’s open to all Malone undergrads. Each spring, students submit creative works in fiction, nonfiction, or poetry. A panel of outside judges reads and evaluates the submissions and selects up to three winners in each category.
Engage with professional writers at Malone’s Writer Series events
Each semester, Malone hosts contemporary authors on campus for students to engage in their work and ask questions regarding their professional careers. The Writer’s Series event typically consists of a writing masterclass with a reading and discussion panel from the visiting author to follow.

Professional Writing and Editing minor
If you’re interested in enhancing another field of study with your writing skills, add a minor in professional writing & editing to another major of your choice. This minor includes 16 hours of focused coursework designed to equip you for careers that demand strong writing and editing abilities in a dynamic setting.
Creative Writing minor
Do you want to add a little creativity to your professional skills? Minor in creative writing and focus on the genres of your choice. A minor in creative writing consists of 19 hours of writing and syntax coursework, as well as our Living Traditions course which lets you dig deep into the lives of classic authors.
English Minor
