Following the recent US incursion into Venezuela and capture of Nicholas Maduro, there has been much discussion of the 19th century idea of the Monroe Doctrine and its meaning then and today. Join us for a conversation that seeks to develop the background and historical context for present debates on American foreign policy and diplomatic relations.

Adam Carrington is co-director of the Ashbook Center at Ashland University where he teaches courses in American politics, religion and politics, and constitutionalism.
Dr. James E. Seelye, Jr.
Associate Professor of History
Kent State University-Stark
James Seelye specializes in 19th century American history and teaches courses in Latin American history.
