You can add blocks inside this block

Our goal is to prepare confident and skilled writers who can use their gifts to serve the industries of their choice, and their communities, as authors, editors, teachers, or writers in professional settings.

Embark on a journey as a creative writer and engage in a full range of literary endeavors across genres including poetry, stories, and essays. You’ll learn to manage the editing, designing, and publishing processes of online and print journals. Additionally, you’ll have opportunities to present your written work at conferences and public readings. Together, you and your peers will grow in your writing craft as you build and refine your gifts through the creation of the professional portfolio that employers seek during the interview process.

“I chose Malone for a few reasons. I valued how attentive and caring our professors were with us. I liked the size of campus and I loved that they had a creative writing program, not just an English program. I felt like Malone was where I was supposed to be.”

Program Distinctives

Compete in our annual Malone Writer’s Prize contest

The Malone Writers Prize is an annual creative writing contest that’s open to all Malone undergrads. Each spring, students submit creative works in fiction, nonfiction, or poetry. A panel of outside judges reads and evaluates the submissions and selects up to three winners in each category.

Engage with professional writers at Malone’s Writers Series events

Each semester, Malone hosts contemporary authors on campus for students to meet so you can engage in their work and ask questions about their professional careers. The Writers Series typically includes a writing masterclass with a reading and discussion panel from the visiting author.

Professional internship experience is readily available to students

Grow your skills as a writer not just in the classroom but out in the real world with professional writers through internships opportunities. Local and regional professionals care about the success of our students and will help you build your portfolio while supporting you toward becoming a confident professional writer.

Creative Writing Internship Opportunities

The professional world for writers is fruitful in Canton, Ohio and beyond. Between regional options and the flexibility of remote writing work, students can creatively engage in professional settings to match their interests while refining their writing in preparation for future work.

The Creative Writing program will help you explore faith in writing through historical and contemporary literature with the help of a Christian lens.
