Program Distinctives

Interaction with accomplished writers

The Writers Series brings accomplished writers of poetry, fiction, and non-fiction to campus each semester to read from their works or works-in-progress while conducting workshops on elements of craft. Through the Writers Series Seminar (ENG 325), students read the works of visiting writers and have opportunities to meet with them.

Invigorating retreat opportunities

Get out and explore the world of literature in unique environments that go beyond the classroom. One of our most popular trips takes us to the Calvin Festival of Faith & Writing so students can experience theatre, films, and literary readings from around the region.

One-on-one mentorship from day one

What are your aspirations as a writer? How can we help you reach these goals? We will help you individually so you can build a foundation of literary skills that will make you a confident writer across genres upon graduation.

English Internship Opportunities

How will you decide to pursue internship experiences? With a career focused on literary expertise, you’ll have flexible opportunities to pursue hands-on experience both in-person or remotely online. Whether locally or nationally, there are endless opportunities to engage literature professionally.
