Malone’s marine biology program makes a splash for students who want to protect and preserve the essential ecosystem of our oceans. Explore the many facets of ocean health, including resource consumption and conservation, as well as sustainability and other environmental concerns. You’ll also learn about the biology, behavior, and identification of marine animals; whether you tag sharks in the Gulf or study the social behavior of seals in the Puget Sound, marine biology at Malone will give you the hands-on experience you need to step into this exciting career.

If you didn’t think it was possible to gain SCUBA certification from a college in Ohio, think again! Through a generous grant from the Herbert W. Hoover Foundation, our students can complete their SDI Open Water SCUBA Certification — it’s just another way we prepare you to be a competitive applicant for marine-related jobs.

Malone also participates in the Environmental Studies extension program available through Au Sable Institute, which helps to make some of these courses and other hands-on learning opportunities possible. The professors in the Division of Natural and Health Sciences would be thrilled to tell you more about this partnership.

Selected courses in this program

Faith Integration

The marine biology program, like our other natural sciences program, follows the model of Genesis 2:15 when God put Adam in the Garden of Eden to serve and keep His creation. The knowledge and skills students learn in this program help them to better care for, and be stewards of, the animals and the environment God has created.
