Christian Music Program:
Preparation for music and life

When you study music at Malone, you’ll learn more than notes on a page — you’ll also gain skills to prepare you for the real world. Our liberal arts curriculum will equip you to excel as a critical-thinker, communicator, and problem solver. Unlike conservatories, which can be competitive and have large class sizes, our supportive program provides opportunities to be mentored by working musicians while you have your pick of performance opportunities.

  • Scholarships are available to students who want to participate in an ensemble at Malone, regardless of major
  • Gain unique musical experiences in ensembles like Steel Pan or the Jazz Ensemble
  • Study the depth and breadth of music history and theory while you perform in community and as a soloist

Ensembles

For music majors and non-majors alike, our ensembles will help you grow as a musician and as a person. Whether you sing, play the piano, or a symphonic instrument, you will gain skills through ensemble participation which can be used long into your professional life. Scholarships are also available for those who join our ensembles.

Jobs and career paths with a music degree

In addition to common paths like performance and education, students in Malone’s music program develop the skills necessary to help them pursue jobs like:

  • Session musician

  • Accompanist
  • Community arts event planner
  • Singer/songwriter
  • Private instructor
  • Arts administrator
“Music faculty and staff make sure you’re ready for the field you’ve chosen, no matter what area of music you choose to pursue. It’s a place for growth and excellence.”

Student Music Organizations

Want to gain professional development opportunities before graduation? Local chapters of state and national organizations provide networking options that can enhance your education and tangible skills.

Ohio Collegiate Music Educators Association (OCMEA)

Music educators in public and private education are members of this group. Malone students are encouraged to join Chapter 86 for an annual membership fee which includes state and national membership and a discounted registration fee for the state convention. All music education students are required to participate in OCMEA.

American Choral Directors Association (ACDA)

This national organization is for choral conductors who work in educational, church, and professional choral settings. Students who are pursuing music education or worship arts are encouraged to join the student chapter for an annual fee which includes state and national membership, as well as discounted conference fees.

Christian Fellowship of Art Music Composers (CFAMC)

CFAMC seeks to glorify Christ encouraging the work and witness of Christian composers of symphonic and chamber music, opera, and other concert works. Located throughout the United States and abroad, members are professional and academic composers (faculty and students), avocational composers, church musicians interested in art music, and others.

Preparation for the Real World
